Ramblings about entertainment, lifestyle and travel
I was lucky enough to get hold of an early DVD release copy of Tracers, an action drama directed by Daniel Benmayor and starring Taylor Lautner, best known for his role in Twilight as well as Marie Avgeropoulos, who you’d know from The 100.
Just about scraping by, Cam (Taylor Lautner) is finding himself in one tricky situation after another. Drowning in debt and living out of a garage, he got mixed up in dodgy and dangerous affairs, desperately looking for a way out. Cam’s prayers are seemingly answered when he meets the beautiful and mysterious Nikki (Marie Avgeropoulos – ‘The 100’). She introduces him to an underground world, which offers high-risk excitement and most importantly quick money. Cam loves the adrenaline and potential for easy money, but when the gang takes on a new target, what was once a game soon becomes a case of life and death. With amazing death-defying stunts, it’s certainly action-packed and fast-paced.
I still find it hard to imagine Taylor in any other role than Jacob Black, so I didn’t quite know what to expect when I started watching it. I had just finished watching Barely Lethal, so it really couldn’t be any worse than that (more on that later). However, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Although I was trying to multi-task when I started watching it doing different things, I quickly stopped so I could focus on the movie and the storyline. It’s really fast paced, so you do have to keep up.
To me, Taylor seemed to be the perfect guy for this type of role. A bit of a daredevil and certainly not clean-cut, he does have that air of someone a bit lost, with a bit of growing up to do (though I’m sure he’s different in real-life). I also liked the fact I couldn’t really figure out Nikki or her story. They both seem to get on really well and then they really don’t, so it is, if anything, quite intriguing.
Throughout the movie I can’t say I was ever bored. The storyline wasn’t entirely new or unheard of, but I liked the chemistry between characters and the action. There were some jumps during his daredevil training that made my heart stop, thinking he wasn’t going to make it (though of course it’d be stupid for the main character to die that early on).
I’ve recently been looking for some new viewing material that’s fun and thrilling that I can just watch from the comfort of my home and I’d say this was it.
Tracers is available from DVD 21 September 2015.
